. northeastern corridor dealing with much cooler weather here. also lots of heavy rain coming into eastern canada as well. the northern plains looking at severe weather conditions to move on through on your thursday. this storm system getting ready to become better organized, moving across the northern rockies just now, and creating very windy conditions and a lot cooler conditions as well across the west. 17 degrees in seattle today. 20 in winnipeg. toronto in the teens today, 19 degrees. new york and washington, d.c. in the mid 20s. much cooler here. as for europe, central portions dealing with lots of showers, isolated heavy rain, and thunderstorms really affecting the alps and also the balkans as we head into your thursday. still looking quite windy across germany and poland as well. the british isles getting a bit of a break in the wet weather. as you can see, a new system is going to be pulling in from the atlantic. again, it will be drenching the area, bringing strong winds as well. 21 degrees in london today. sunny spells for you. 21 in paris. then looking at sunshine in stockholm. 16 deg

warnings in place for a wide area. a separate system to the northeast is making its way into eastern canada. we've got drenching downpours forecast for you. it's going to be quite windy out here and also the cold air ushering from the north will be dropping temperatures dramatically up in the northeastern corner. looking quite chilly and windy as well out towards the west. we do have red flag warnings in place across the central rockies, and then this low pressure system moving through is going to be dumping lots of rain, it's looking quite severe as well as that storm system heads into the northern plains. let's take a look at the temperatures then, 18 degrees in vancouver today, 20 in winnipeg. 24 in new york, but staying very hot down in the south, 34 degrees in houston. now a new storm system has formed over the atlantic, it's tropical depression igor making its way through the cape verde islands, bringing quite stormy continues here. it will be moving away eventually, moving fairly slowly at 9 kilometers per hour, and due to become a hurricane by the weekend, so we will keep you update

on a five-month journey across the united states and lower canada. i document this tore on a map that i painted for the project and also from previous projects called the road map to lost america. on the map i have taken all of the contemporary borders off the map and replaced them with native territories, and then overlaid it with contemporary highways. i have scheduled venue stops at different areas along the tour, from california to south dakota, that will serve as headquarters for my local research. when i was researching the traveling medicine show, i came across this. they had put out an elixir, and it referred to the elements that came out because of the high stress, high-pressure life, mostly because of the industrial revolution. anyway, i was fascinated by the term american-itis, and i thought it did a lot about the stress-related illnesses, and i was impressed that they picked up on that and the 1800's. i did a survey to see if it was irrelevant element today. i have a series of eight painted banners that are retellings of american history. i am particularly interested in tran

pattern has high pressure coming down from canada and we have that cool, dry air as this cold front has passed through. you can see the warmer air to the south and that will continue over the next several days or so. we are looking at the tropics and we have tropical storm ior. for today, that temperature is going to be around 78 degrees. mostly sunny, and it is going to be mild and breezy. so it's going to be a great day to get out there and eat that lunch outdoors. i would say, the winds are going to kick up. you could see a lot of trash blowing across the area. if today is your trash day, bring that trash indoors because it will be everywhere. tonight, that temperature coming in at 56 degrees. it's going to be mostly clear and cool. so yes, another cool evening and then another cool morning as well. but tomorrow, that temperature right around 77 degrees. so 78 today, 77 tomorrow. still lots of sunshine in the forecast. it's going to be mild and still going to be on the breezy side as well. let's take it over to traffic with kim brown. >> thanks linette. we are off it a good start. i

this morning. we're cutting the ribbon on autumn. it's cooled down a lot. dry air all the way from canada is in place this morning. and it's cool. weather watchers reporting in, thanks for checking in, greatly appreciate your faithful report. right now it's in the 50s in most locations in the shenandoah valley, the blue ridge of virginia, and much of western maryland. and far western maryland, the mountains of west virginia, only in the 40s. south and east, weather watchers reporting around the bay right near the waters in the upper 60s, but away from the waters, only near 60 there. and a cool weather pattern will be with us for the next several days as the canadian high pressures has moved in and is in place this morning and will be here into saturday. we'll have highs today reaching the upper 70s to near 80. winds should increase a bit, too, with sunshine. sunny again tomorrow with highs in the southwest and another cool morning, cool again saturday morning, increasing clouds saturday with a high near 80. finally much needed rain on sunday. looks like it will dry out for the n. time for

across the area from canada. you can see just a few clouds skirting through here but not too much there to talk about. look at these temperatures from yesterday. 96degrees at national airport. breaking a record at dulles of 93 degrees. and 92 at baltimore. now, 96, we're some 14 degrees warmer than we should be. today, we are nowhere near that. we talked about this earlier. we are pretty close to almost a 20-degree temperature difference by the time we head through into this afternoon. it is 67 right now at national airport. 55 at gaithersburg. we have agot 58 at baltimore. 59 at manassas and 65 to the south at fredericksburg. we have tropical storm igor to talk about, moving very slowly. maximum sustained winds at 40 miles per hour. right now, there are watches in effect for the cape verde islands. other than that, not a whole lot going on. there is a chance it could possibly fizzle out. we'll hope so but we'll watch it. that ridge of high pressure building its way in. we are talking upper 70s today compared to 96 degrees yesterday. but no shortage of sunshine. we'll see the wind

republican canada has said that social security, which guarantees your parents' retirement, is a "horrible policy." probably 20 members of the republicans running for congress go around saying over and over again that it's as if -- social security as a ponzi scheme. jo miller has said that unemployment benefits are not constitutionally authorized. we should in social security. my personal favorite, kentucky republican candidates ran the paul -- rand paul opposes the fair housing act any said that the other civil-rights acts were unnecessary and should be open for discussion or revision. all right and was the balance the budget not by repealing tax cuts on the wealthy like president clinton did, but by increasing taxes on the middle class, while phasing out social security and medicare. some republicans are broaching the idea of considering a rewrite of the 14th amendment's of the constitution, the amendment passed by congress in honor of the assassinated president abraham lincoln, the first republican to be president of the united states. one of those republicans who ventured that idea is
